Monster Battler
A downloadable game
Welcome to the world of monsters!
Do you have what it takes to tame ‘em all!?
GAME DESCRIPTION
In the Monster Battler (WIP) world, you play the role of a tamer. This particular tamer has been abandoned and left in the shack where they were born. With your parents gone, it’s you against the wilds!
You wake up on a summer morning. You hear birds chirping, and the sun is beaming through the window. However, a smell is missing. You don’t smell the refreshing scent of morning stew. You walk to the kitchen, and see your mother isn’t there. “Did she go to town?.. This early?” You think, heading outside to see if your father knows where she is.
You check the garden, the shed, even the barn that’s been empty since just after you were born. “Did he go with Mother?”
As you leave to make breakfast, an eerie sound comes from behind the barn, almost like a clicking chirp. With no parents to protect the homestead, it’s up to you to inspect. Cautiously, you approach the sound.
In the Monster Battler world, tamers rule the wilds. Blessed by magic, they have the ability to sway monsters to their will. With enough practice, a tamer can even wield the mightiest of dragons, Charmaine.
Each monster is unique, but easy to understand. Aquatic monsters prefer the water and will generally wield Water type magic. Ghost monsters will usually wield Dark Magic and will generally appear in graves.
Fairy, Angel, Demon and Dragon monsters element's will vary, and are the most difficult monsters to master.
CURRENT FEATURES
Currently the player is able to select their team of monsters and battle an NPC team.
Only three attacks are fully visual (aside from the basic attack animation) with more coming soon!
Physical & NPC Magic Attack Example
Each monster can have status effects applied (stat boosts, paralysis, confused, etc.), with only stat boosts currently being functional.
The player can switch their lead monster between their party party monsters during the battle.
PLANNED FEATURES
Monsters, attacks, animations and more!!
I plan to add more monsters and everything that’s included with them. Their attacks, the attacks animations and any status effects they might apply.
Speaking of status effects, I plan to make them more visual with animations when applied and a helpful UI to help you keep track of what’s applied.
I also plan to add an overworld for the player to move around in. This overworld will eventually have human and natural habits, along with random encounters. When presented with an encounter, it’s usually best to use your monsters, but a brave (or stupid) soul may step into the ring themselves. Armed with the magical force of will (and food), a tamer can subdue a monster without ever allowing harm to come to their team.
If it’s another person’s monster, you may take it as your own (Only if they’re an NPC… maybe.). To do so, you must have more influence over that monster preferred element type than their current tamer.
Once a monster is tamed, it may be banished or summoned by your will. Banished monsters enter the Aether. Only monsters can exist here, and do as they wish with no limits.
When in need, a summoner may tap into their mana reservoir to summon a monster from the Aether. Once summoned, the monster will use its power and fight to its tamer's command.
ROAD MAP
- Allow for 2 monsters per side
- Create visualization for status effects
- A UI element the player can have their mouse over to see the name of a status effect.
- Clicking to see a description possibly later. (After or before Basic Gameplay)
- Add more animations
- All current attacks will be animated.
- More monsters, attacks, and status effects
- I’ll be adding more monsters, with each monster will come with attacks, and some of those attacks will have status effects.
- Overworld Gameplay & Starting Area
- I already kind of have an overworld (Simple Man’s Survival), but it wasn’t originally intended for this type of project. The overworld I have planned will be similar and will most likely use many of the same assets.
- Monster Encounter & Taming
- Once an overworld is setup, I will implement being able to encounter monsters on the overworld and design a system to allow the player to tame monsters. (Through affection or force.)
